  1. 1. No matter how hard you try you can't gain muscle.
  2. 2. You don't know how to burn fat while gaining muscle.
  3. 3. Putting on the right kind of weight never happens.
  4. 4. You never see results no matter what you try.

How to gain muscleSounds a bit familiar right?  So how about all those inside secrets that we always see and hear.  I've come across countless magazines on how to gain muscle as well as many variations of supplements to help out but in the end they didn't do much because I didn't understand how to put it all together.

You shouldn't be asking how to gain muscle, that's the wrong question, the question you should be asking is "what are you doing wrong to not gain muscle?"  I've found that usually many people have the overall BIG picture in place, but it's the little things inside that big picture that make gaining muscle AND burning fat possible.  If you do these things wrong you will have a difficult time building muscle.

There are no secrets when it comes to gaining muscle mass.  It's all about:

  • * Eating enough of the right calories
  • * Progressing with your weight lifting workout regimen.

(NOTE: For more background on the same unique program I used to help myself gain muscle visit: How to gain muscle, it was the only way I added 14lbs of muscle in a couple of months)

If you get these two basic parts of a muscle gaining program right you will gain muscle and force yourself to add more muscle mass to your body, it's plain and simple.  There are no grey areas, strictly black and white. The area that most fail to realize is understanding how to lift weights and how to eat.  If you know how to eat to gain muscle then it is a requirement to know how to lift weights and vice versa.

What about learning how to burn fat as well?  There are two ways to combat this and one of them is already taken care through lifting weights.  When you lift heavy weights (when I say "heavy" this means the most you can lift with out sacrificing proper form and technique and completing your full workout) you naturally stimulate growth hormone which helps fight fat cells.  Muscle fibers are needed to help lift weights, this in turn means you will be utilizing more muscle, the more muscle used burns more calories.. the end result, increased fat loss and higher metabolism.

How to gain muscle - Here are the same tips I took and added 8 pounds of muscle over a 5 week span.  These are not to be taken lightly and should be considered as the only real way to gain muscle.

If you haven't heard it already, let's say it again... CALORIES is what you need to gain muscle mass.  Plain and simple.  If you want to get bigger, stronger or if you want to add just 5 pounds of muscle, you will need to eat more calories.  If you fail to do this one thing alone you will fail at gaining muscle. The best way to calculate it and the easiest way is to eat approximately 20-22 calories per pound of body weight.  So let's assume you are weighing in at 165lbs.  We simply take 20 multiplied by 165 = 3300 calories a day.

To gain an even higher understanding and advantage of calorie intake visit: how to gain muscle it was the only way I learned how to apply unique strategies to help add solid muscle mass with in a couple of months, while losing fat.

You might find a lot of information on how to calculate the amount of calories you need to gain muscle online, but the most simplest and basic way to do this with out any crazy formulas is to stick with this method. It's simple and works. Now, with that being said I do want to say that eating higher calories isn't the only thing you NEED to do to gain muscle.  Finding the right balance between your carbohydrate, protein and fat intake is something will need to apply in your nutrition as well.  It's not too complicated, it's actually quite simple and here's how to do it.

How To Gain Muscle Through Increasing Your Protein Intake

If you have heard of the protein intake rule of thumb, then you know that you should be consuming about 1 gram of protein per pound of body each day.  An exception to this rule is your training days.  This will be set at 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight.  So for someone weighing in at 165lbs will need about 330 grams total. The added protein on your training days is to help support muscle growth.

If you're working out correctly in the gym, your workouts are going to be very intense and rigorous on your muscles.  The added amino acid's will help support you muscle breakdown and provide the necessary nutrients to help support recovery and growth.  Don't give your muscles any excuse to not grow, force them to grow.

How To Gain Muscle By Eating Fats and Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are just as important as your protein intake.  There needed to help fuel and energize your body through your intense workouts.  Consuming 2 grams of carbohydrates per pound of body weight is ideal to help gain muscle mass.  They help with protein synthesis, as well as keeping your muscles large. Now, when it comes to eating fats, we're not talking about any kind of fats here.  These are the good fats that are needed to help muscle and joint recovery as well as muscle growth.  Healthy fats are found in nuts, avocado, olive oil, butter, fish...etc.  You want to aim for approximately 0.5 grams of healthy fats per pound of body weight or for a 165lbs person 82 grams. (0.5 x 165lbs = 82)

How To Gain Muscle With Sleep - Not To Be Taken Lightly

Our workouts make up 50% of our muscle building goals and nutrition is the other 50%, so how do we recover from our 100% hard work and effort?  This is through our sleep.  With out it you simply will be wasting all your efforts.  This is due to sleep and it's ability to induce recovery and growth through its large hormonal effect.  With out proper recovery through sleep you won't be able to develop muscles and even lose fat. The reason being is that while you sleep, your body releases growth hormone which provides your muscles the highest output of increased anabolism while decreasing the catabolism effect.  This is extremely crucial to help promote muscle growth and recovery.

We always hear get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep, and that holds true for building muscle.  The deep effects of sleep go much beyond the recovery of your muscles.  It helps your entire body recover from the stresses that we put on it daily.  Sleep before midnight to get the most out of your sleeping recovery time.  The effects aren't as great as they are before 12am.  Your quality of sleep is much higher when going to bed prior to midnight.

Burn Fat Gain Muscle With Good Weight Training Program

The only way to build more muscle is to put more stress on them, break them down and then allow your muscles to recover.  With out a solid gym routine that progresses through each week you won't be able to achieve big and fast muscle gains.  View this gym routine for building muscle, it is highly effective. Something to take notice of during a weight gain/muscle gain program is how much fat you are putting on.

When you consume large quantities of calories, putting on some fat is inevitable.  The best way to counter act this is by adding some cardio to your workout routines. You can start with a 10 minute cardio workout prior to your weight lifting routine and another 10 after.  Monitor your fat percentage, if you find you are still putting on fat increase it to 15 minutes prior and 15 minutes after.

For those of you who are putting on a little more fat than estimated, jump to a 20 minutes cardio before and after with a total of 40 minutes. Do not exceed this amount, you should be shedding fat off effectively with one of these intervals.  To gain the most out of your cardio use high intense interval training also known as HIITto help increase the amount burning fat while decreasing the loss of muscle.
