You know those nasty little bursts of cravings we get, especially the ones at night! Those are the worst; you just can’t help but to go in the kitchen and start looking for something sweet to munch on. You know that it’s wrong, but you just can’t help it. Then what happens after we finished eating that cookie or ice cream… you kinda feel a little guilty… right??
Do you ever wonder why we end up getting these sugar cravings that tease us and drive us crazy? You might not every think about in technical terms but there are reasons to these sugar cravings which come and go as it chooses to.
Sooo… what we’re going to outline here today are the details behind these nasty little sugar cravings, identifying them and learning how to keep them from happening. Believe it or not, there are certain things which we do and don’t do which is the culprit behind those late night sugary snacks.
How to Stop Sugar Cravings | Tips and Advice
Sugar cravings can occur from our own natural moods or feelings. Sweets can act much like a drug in providing a high when we eat them. They can release endorphins and like carbohydrates they can boost serotonin levels as well. What happens when you eat that chocolate candy bar, it gives you a happy feeling. I’m sure you’ve probably seen it with others, when someone puts that candy in their mouth they start to dance or do a little shuffle. That’s the release of endorphins blazing through the brain and body.

The cravings we receive are ok just as long as they don’t occur too often or you don’t over indulge. It’s simply too easy to get carried away with chocolates, desserts, and sweets so understanding what the cut off points are is very necessary to help control over consumption, which is what leads us to added fat and an unhealthy diet. Sugars add up fast and they get left behind and get stored straight to the problem areas.
TIP # 1: Buy some gum and chew away! This is a very effective and helpful technique which not only helps reduce the sugar cravings but also can help curb food cravings as well. It doesn’t matter which gum you choose, just pick one that you enjoy that tastes good.
TIP #2: Eating fruits can really cut out the cravings completely. Since there are naturally sweet you get the best of both worlds by eating fruits. For me personally, I find that grapes kick the sweet cravings like a charm. I use to munch on little snacks late at night and these cravings happened at the same time every day, once I figured it out I always kept grapes on standby to help me get passed those horrible cravings.
TIP #3: Switch to a 6 meal a day plan. This helps because you are able to keep a stable blood sugar level and the cravings won’t attack as hard since you will already be full throughout the day. Split your meals into 6 smaller portions eating every 3-4 hours.
TIP #4: Get out of the house, your cubicle or any setting you’re in and take a walk or focus your attention onto something else. Try splashing a little cold water on your face. Just by removing yourself from one setting to another can change moods instantly and can have you focused on other subject matters.
TIP #5: If you have made it through the week and you managed to get by defeating your cravings then pick a day and reward yourself for your hard efforts. I usually do this on every Sunday after 6 days of proper dieting and working out, I call that day my cheat day. I eat whatever I want and however much of it. What’s the point of working hard if you can’t have some fun? Work hard for 6 days, and then enjoy your free day!
Put these tips to use and stick with it, you can eventually teach your body and taste buds to start accepting its candy substitutes. This will happen, but not without a little tug and pull. Usually, the first day or up to a week can be a little rough, but once you get past that point you will start to easily get rid of the sugar cravings without any hassle.
